NEHL Alnwick – Ladies Captains Report

The penultimate fixture of this season’s Harrier League at Alnwick was an important one for Heaton Ladies. We were slipping down Division 1 and needed a strong team performance to be sure of missing the relegation zone. The 10 ladies who turned up all ran hard and did us proud. Our counters this time were: Nicola, who, with her brilliant 12th place from the mediums, earns promotion to the fast Continue Reading →

NEHL Wallington – Ladies Captain Report

For the first time in this season’s cross country season the sun didn’t shine, but the calm, relatively mild weather offered good running conditions. The course was certainly a breeze compared to last week, though there were a couple of tricky narrow sections to negotiate which made overtaking challenging. First counter for Heaton Ladies was Katie Maxwell who is getting increasingly stronger in cross country; Katie gained promotion to medium Continue Reading →

Ladies XC Akley Heads Report

The sun came out just in time for the women’s race of the 2nd Harrier League fixture of the season. It was good to have the prospect of a new and unknown course ahead of us. I hadn’t done a recce before the race, partly following the old adage “ignorance is bliss” and partly because I was too busy chatting. Who needs a warm up when you can save your Continue Reading →

Davison Shield Report

A good turn-out again from Heaton Ladies for this year’s Davison Shield. 13 runners competed in a record field of 314 runners. The conditions were good, if a bit blustery, especially around that interminable football field at the end of the course. Nicola had a storming run, finishing in 25th position overall. The seniors finished in an excellent 5th place, with Cristina and Ellen being the 2nd and 3rd counters Continue Reading →

NEHL Cramlington – Ladies Captains Report

The first Harrier League fixture of the season was run under blue skies in unseasonal warmth. The weather brought out the crowds and there was a great atmosphere. The course was the driest I’ve known it and, in consequence, very fast. There was a great turnout from the Heaton ladies, with 16 runners competing. It was good to have Ellen Roberts and Laura Jardine back after their ‘maternity leaves’ – Continue Reading →
