English XC championships 2013.

A trip to Sunderland or more accurately to Herrington country park. The snow predicted on Look North had arrived, causing repeat conditions of the Northerns. Still it looked nice, till you had to stand in it for several hours.

James Green was first off for us in the U15 boys, and was happy to complete the course given his recent chest infection and very heavy conditions.

jamesherrThe ladies were next , off at 14 20. Nina had Laura Jardine, Jenny Friend and Jenny Brignall . Heaton finishing in 20th place for senior women. A great effort despite more of the squad being unavailable. The lads cheered the lasses on for the first lap before retiring to get ready to run.

The chaps were off at 1500 hrs, We had Lucas Longman, Patrick Duffy, Ian Robertson, Dave Brignall, Dan Robbins, Oliver Jardine and Andy Bell and myself in the squad. The Boss was notably absent, speedy recovery George!

The mud had become steadily more liquid and as the races progressed the more decorated in County Durham the athletes became. Never having competed at the nationals before it was quite a thing to be part of such a thundering herd of runners.557919_10151508580954540_302354923_n

As the laps progressed the chaps became steadily more dirty, nowt changes there. Les was leading the support on the top of the hill with Magnus, Lorna, Louise and James G, all in good voice cheering us all on. Pat had to drop out with a foot problem into the second lap, speedy recovery sir.

Lucas had a good run after his chest infection, but the captain was particularly pleased to see Robbo heading back into form. A good and well paced effort. The rest of us, got head down and went for it. The finish videos shows some splendid race faces. results here!  UPDATE: report on Sky Local

A great day out, next Xc is Alnwick on Saturday please come and race or support. Your captains will gladly register anyone who wants to run. XC is a great strengthener for half or full marathon training and builds proprioception! Don’t be shy come and race Saturday.
