Firstly we would like to thank everyone for their past support of the Heaton Memorial Races which are the club’s feature event of the year. Heaton Harriers are immensely proud to host the Memorial Races each year which are amongst the longest running in the north east. They were first run by the club in 1920 to remember the north east runners who lost their lives during The Great War.
As the 100th anniversary of the start of The Great War on the 28th of July 1914 is now approaching, we believe that we need to mark the moment and accordingly entries for the 2014 edition of the Heaton Harriers Memorial Races will be opened on 28 July 2014. We have decided to open entries in order that supporters and regular participants of the races can remember and mark this date. We hope that by doing so we will help everyone to comprehend how long the conflict lasted, in particular, as our annual race on Sunday 11 November 2018 will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the war ending.
We hope that as many people as possible will take this opportunity and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday the 9th of November.
