North East Cross Country Harrier League 2007/8:

Heaton's women won the league, the men were promoted to Division 1, and Helen Johnson was 3rd in the senior women's Grand Prix.
After the women lost their 3-point lead to Sunderland at Wrekenton, it needed some inspired performances to hold off the Wearsiders at Prudhoe. Superb runs from Helen and Jo from the fast pack to take 5th and 7th positions were backed up with an excellent 8th place from Alice. With Sunderland runners having finished 3rd and 4th, the wait was on to see whether their third runner could finish better than 13th. At this stage Jenny held 13th position for Heaton, but Sunderland's Hayley Reed was rapidly closing on her from the fast pack. Jenny held on into the strong wind on the short uphill finishing straight to beat her by just two seconds, with a Gatehead runner in 14th position adding to the slender cushion that confirmed Heaton as league champions.
Earlier in the day the men were unable to make up any ground on Morpeth's lead in the league, but second place was enough to gain promotion to the top league for next season. Don led the way again, this time from the medium pack, while James came through from the fast pack into 17th position. Only Morpeth's Mark Brown and Peter Newton of Claremont ran faster than James.

At our presentation night in April there was a small prize for the Heaton member with the lowest combined positions in the senior men's and women's races in all 6 races, and another for the lowest combined positions of their best four races. The final scores are shown below:
