This is a typically low-key evening fell race and is a fundraiser for Shaftoe Trust primary school in Haydon Bridge. Cat BS, coming in at 5.5 miles and 915 ft of climb.
It has a decent amount of climb and mixed terrain, varying from woodland paths to open fell pasture and tracks. It was also a counter for the northeastern counties fell series and had attracted a fast field. Heaton had Matt Hetherington and Ian McAuslan, Nina Cameron and Myself also ran.
Yesterday evening was horribly muggy and the temperature was 26 degrees. Not ideal for racing uphill for two miles before getting any real relief from climbing. Lots of tapes made for fairly easy navigation with once one spot causing a bit of off piste action. The high point of the race was at Branchend farm, just before two miles of downhill. The road was picked up for a short section before finishing in the school grounds.
Results: 1st John Butters NFR. 2nd Chris Eddis Keswick, 3rd Matt Hetherington Heaton.
