On the first running of the Alnwick cross country the NEHL was treated to a fantastic course with all the factors needed for a testing event. Conditions were cool in the morning but came out ideal for the start of the senior mens race. Heaton Harrers easily had the largest representation of club members out with the mens team around 36 runners showing the fantastic growth in cross country running. After completing a warm up lap with the team and catching up with some of the lads from South shields we realised it was a long 2 miles+ per lap with a testing climb section and a very quick decent at the end.
The course was actually very quick in parts and everyone seemed to really enjoy the way the course flowed. There were great performances all round with some exceptional runs, Lee Ager on his first outing for HH coming in 2nd place and helping us claw some points back in the division. Oliver Jardine had a fantastic run in 20th and has gained promotion to the medium pack, current inform runner Phil Green just outside the promotion and looking certain to go up at Prudhoe is getting stronger each race. Well done to Wayne Fuller on his first HH cross country clocking a 45.07 which should set him up for some future quick 10k times.
There were great performances in the ladies event which attracted a solid field and some quick times. A quality run by Jenny Brignal saw her placing 5th overall and gaining promotion to the medium pack. Jo Zoppi ran the quickest HH time in 28.37 putting her 7th on the day and 3rd in the GranPrix with Laura Jardine close behind in 5th.
A final mention to our junior runners who all had great runs with Jack Stephenson placing 6th in 28.36, also well done to the Green's who are clearly making great progress with the extra running at club and park runs.
