Prudhoe - XC Harrier League Final

Published in Cross Country Written by Guillaume Z
On what was a very hot day the final NEHL fixture was held at Prudhoe. The conditions made the already testing course quite a challenge for many of the runners but as always the Heaton Men and Women were up to the challenge and came through in fine form. The Men, who were sitting a little a drift in fourth put in a sterling performance to get level with Sunderland Harriers on points in joint 3rd after beating them by two in the fixture. It was only on the count back that we were pipped by only the smallest margin and had to settle with a fourth place but very well fought!. The ladies working just as hard as the men put in a fantastic race and were happy to sit in second place this year.
We may not have got the two top spots, but Heaton showed out in huge numbers right through the season showing we have a great club spirit for XC that i hope we can move into track and field with Tyne Bridge Harriers this summer.
A great job all round folks :-). Mark Likeman - Mens XC Captain

The North East Harrier League - Blaydon

Published in Cross Country Written by Mark Likeman

Apologies for the delay with putting up these results.

Some great results below in what is turning out to be a tough XC season for both the men and women. All the North East clubs are throwing out big groups which is making for interesting reading in the team tables at this half way point.

Some of the stand out performances from the Men and Women include Kelly Dodds with a cracking second place and being promoted to the medium pack and Deborah Hicks with a great 18th place. Heatons men have lots of runners in there first cross country season with Ed Taylor, Matt Salter and Nick Froom all making counters. Great runs right through the pack with Phil Green in great form edging ever closer to the counters. Some great work from the men and women in the Medium and fast packs cutting through the field to help the counters. All in all a positive day and fantastic numbers that we hope to keep going right through the season.

A mention also to our Juniors getting stuck in at each event with the Greens flying the flag for the lads and a fantastic result from Holly Matheson in 4th who has now been promoted to the fast pack in the U13 GIRLS.

I look forward to be back racing with you all at Wreckenton!

North East Harriers League Farringdon

Published in Cross Country Written by Mark Likeman
Another Great performance from Heaton Harriers at the Farringdon XC. As you are aware there were problems with the finish so this may have effected some peoples final position.

All of that aside there were some fantastic performances from both the men and women. Jamie Barbour (promoted to medium pack) kept his current strong form going to come through in 3rd against a very tough field at the front. Nick Froom and Ed Taylor had quality runs and both featured as team counters for the first time. Kelly Dodds had a great run coming through to 11th, all the more impressive as she completed the park run that morning aswell.

Thank you to all who showed out again in great numbers! also there were many more quality runs i havnt mentioned and great to see such progression at all levels.

Well another great start to the North East Harrier League!!! -

I arrived to collect the numbers pretty early on Saturday morning and luckily had Shaun with me to help make the changes to some of the groups and welcome Craig Hodgson into his first year in the senior men’s division. It was nice to see so many of the guys there early to help Guillaume set the team tent up in preparation of the 1.15 start in what seemed to be spot on conditions.

The first thing to mention is how many Heaton Harriers turned out and how many of those were new runners to the club. It’s great to see shows just how much the club is growing and that new members are happy to get stuck into one of the toughest race seasons.

The stand out performances of the day had to come from the Women. Again they showed their XC skills by coming first by a good margin. Jo Zoppi having the fastest time of the day, this after a gruelling summer of mixed training for GB Triathlon Duties. Another great performance was from new recruit Mairi Crawford who came second on her first XC outing logging one of the top ten fastest times overall. Hannah Shillitoe who attacked the course from the start showed some grit to come in fifth giving Heaton's first 3 ladies 2,4 & 5. Credit to the whole team as there were good performance's all round.

In the men’s there were great runs from Dan Robins and new recruit Jaime Macleod who were both promoted to Medium pack. Ian Robinson and Mark Likeman are both promoted to the fast pack. Matt Salter showed quality team spirit after going over on his ankle but still hobbling home in 74th and 5th counter!. Several new comers Ed Taylor, Nick Froom, Mick Mingstones, Gary Dicker, Joseph Macleod, Simon Jobe all had great runs and did quality work in pushing the other teams back.

A big thank you to all our XC regulars who were out in force and good to see so many people giving advice at the start of the race! Great team spirit!

**Also as i forgot to mention earlier, thank you to Davey Wright and his Heaton Harriers  t-shirt wearing doggie mascot Archie! (see picture at top), a very popular and friendly addition to the team that we hope comes along again :-) **

Mark Likeman - Men’s team XC Captain.

Prudhoe Harrier League - Captains Report

Published in Cross Country Written by Administrator
There was a great buzz in the car driving to the penultimate cross country! Weather wise it looked to be a nice day with not too much wind for the very tough Prudhoe fixture. After juggling bodies around between cars we were on to discussing what we would need to do to get the men on the top spot.

When my car full arrived at Prudhoe we collected some extra numbers and waited for the Zoppi’s to arrive with the new Heaton team tent! After the fairly lengthy walk to the top of the hill it was great to see plenty of green and white vests already waiting and in no time the new tent and flag were up (which were cracking!) ...
