Heading down towards the dunes and cycle tracks through the dunes towards Seaton Sluice, the undulating terrain and the head-on breeze meant pacing was challenging. The front of the field was becoming quite strung out at the halfway turn at 5km and I was having a good battle with two Tynedale runners who were aiming for a similar pace to me. The wind was now behind us and pacing was easier now despite fatigue starting to set in.
We returned to the road section we had started on for the last mile. A sprint finish along the quay lead to a well organised finish area where runners were funnelled onto the boarded quay where t-shirts and water were handed out.
Some great performances from Heaton runners including a 10th overall place for Mark Likeman and a 1st female finisher for Lorna Young was added to by a further six Heaton runners finishing with sub-40 minute times.
All in all, an excellent race, well organised and run in glorious conditions along a great route.
