HH Club Training Schedule 

We have now had a couple of months since the re-start of Club Sessions and been able to gain practical experience of running in a Covid19 Safe environment.   

Firstly, thanks to all (over 100 different members) of you that have attended and taken personal responsibility to socially distance and follow our guidelines.  Not surprising but thank you! 

Because of the vigilance and co-operation of members we have been able to conduct the sessions Covid19 Safe.  That has involved some innovation in the type of session, location and meeting up point.  As the evenings draw in and the range of suitable locations reduces, we will need to continue to be careful in our choices. 

While we transition the sessions from Summer to Autumn (and Winter ☹) and in the absence of racing, we will tweak the Training Schedule to reflect circumstances.  Namely via:- 

  • Making Tuesday sessions slightly more focused on longer tempo runs. This will also include an occasional ‘long run’ (6-10 mile) as part of the programme. We have sufficient numbers to ensure that there is a mini-group for all distances and pace.  We are re-introducing the popular Quayside Loop as a starter! 
  • On Thursdays we will alternate over a 3 week period to cover Hills, medium distance reps, shorter distance ‘effort’ reps.   
  • In the absence of an external race calendar (even Parkrun), we will introduce a competitive, race pace, element to some sessions (e.g. Time Trial).  Unfortunately, we judge that it is too soon to re-introduce the Club Handicap. 

N.B. The Tuesday/Thursday choice is driven by the potential numbers and the need to easily maintain Covid19 Safe protocols.  PLEASE, PLEASE attend BOTH sessions if you can.  It is excellent that greater numbers than ever are attending on a Thursday and we will adapt to cater for more runners as necessary. Our aim is that we have mass participation and improvement in a safe and fun environment!!! 

We will continue to congregate at 7pm at locations dependent on where the session will commence.  Although it may still be light when we start the sessions it will be getting dark as we end. Therefore, please dig out the winter fluorescent clothing.  Stay Covid19 and Road safe.

Tuesday Sept 1st   HH ‘Paced Parkrun’ over 5km Parkrun pace! Area outside Rising Sun Country Park Café (NE12 9SS) Pacers for 19, 20, 22,24,26 & 28 min!  
Thursday Sept 3rd   Hills.  Fig 8 at Rising Sun Full effort up, easy down TOP OF HILL @ Rising Sun 1 lap of Park with 50% of time as recovery then go again 
Monday Sept 7th   Monthly Mile Warm up so ready to race on ‘Go’ Junction of West St & Rutland Rd (NE28 8QH) Sign up @ 7pm with individual starts from 7:15pm 
Tuesday Sept 8th   Tempo Run.  6-8 miles dependent on running group  Faster than Sunday Run – no chatting Blue Flames grass/car park (NE12 9SF) Gps 1-3, 8 mile Quayside Loop. Gps 4-6 Short QL 
Thursday Sept 10th  Parlauf (Fast & Easy) Fast lap of park, recovery when partner runs Park in Gosforth (St Nicholas Av entrance, NE3 1RG)  30 mins of alternate laps with partner. 
Tuesday Sept 15th  Tempo & Pace. Killi Pursuit 10km pace Blue Flames grass/car park (NE12 9SF) Tempo & effort.  
Thursday Sept 17th  ‘Just a minute’ Efforts Full speed for 60 secs Stephenson School Field (NE12 6BJ) 6*1 min with 90 sec recovery.  3 min break then repeat! 
Tuesday Sept 22nd  Medium Distance Reps. 80Om @ Balliol 1km/1mile pace Balliol Business Park but on Gosforth Park Way (NE12 8DG) 30 mins. 800m with 50% effort time for recovery between reps 
Thursday Sept 24th  Hills. Heaton Big & Small. Full effort up, easy recovery down BOTTOM of the hill! Junction of Jesmond Vale Lane & Ouseburn Rd (NE6 5JS) 30 mins. Effort up, recovery down 
Tuesday Sept 29th  Tempo 5 mile 10km pace Blue Flames grass/car park (NE12 9SF) Even paced run from top of Coach Lane
