Heaton was very well represented at Saturday’s Sherman Cup/Davison Shield fixture at a somewhat breezy Temple Park. It was great to see several juniors running and all credit to the U13 girls, who turned out a full team and so boosted Heaton’s overall score.
Although a bit windy (we all love the tour of the playing fields at the end into the teeth of a gale) the going was generally good underfoot and those who wore trails could get some advantage on the footpath sections. The course has a lot of flat sections, with a few short, sharp inclines so the pace is unrelenting.
Jo Zoppi led the Heaton ladies in, finishing well up the field. The performances throughout were brilliant, with all our ladies finishing comfortably within the top 200 out of a field of 350 runners. Well done ladies!
An on-form James Mackenzie led the Heaton men home, placing high in a quality field, with Matt Hetherington just a few places behind. Again the level of participation by Heaton men was brilliant.
Well done to all who participated from oldest to youngest. Let’s do it all again at the next Harrier League fixture at Aykley Heads on the 18th November!
