The annual Spring relays took place on Saturday 30th March at Churchill. Unfortunately we did not have a women’s team, but the small merry band of men did Heaton proud!
it was a jam packed day with lots of junior races and throws events, and well attended by other clubs.
Heaton had 5 men racing in the open mile across two heats. Heat 1 saw a closely contested race, with James Mckenzie settling for 2nd, James Meader 3rd, and fairly new to the racing scene Jordon Cairns placing 4th. In Heat 2, the continuously improving ‘Storm Calum Mills’ took the lead early, was overtaken, but kept his cool and stormed to a resounding win! Scott Armstrong had a good solid race coming back from injury.
After many other races, and a worsening turn in the weather, the men’s 4x800m relay took place on a cold, damp, post rain track.
James ‘Tigger’ Mckenzie bounced his way around giving Heaton a fantastic 100m lead. thats is where the race was won, as the next legs -Calum Mills, James Meader, and Jordon Cairns easily maintained this lead, ran hard and solidly won Gold!
A fantastic day, great performances by all, and bring on next year with more Heaton teams!
