track and field frenzy!

The first week in June was a particularly busy and eventful one for track and field, Northern league match on Sunday 4th, the BMC and the NEMAA match on Monday 5th.

The weather on Sunday for the Northern league was a bit of a mixed bag, but that did not deter a good number of the green and white army descending onto Churchill. The atmosphere was fantastic and the team camaraderie and support as always so motivating. Everyone did very well and should be very proud of themselves. Highlights were Suzan Dudink’s win for discus, and a spectacular win for high jump at 1m56cm. Debut on track for Jack Shawcross and Jamie Kirk, great performances and more to come if they come to track training! Ian Robinson pb and a win on steeplechase, Danny as always a fab performance in steeple too. Mark Banks an easy win on 400m, crossing the line with a satisfied smile on his face! Colette Whitfield good solid performances in 800m, 1500m and 3k, and Nina Cameron braving the flatness of the track and turning out a solid performance in the 3k.  Holly Matheson got a Pb in 1500m with 5.03. Lizzy Riley pb in 400m, and 200m! Lisa Boyd pb in javelin achieved whilst still out of breath from 100m relay! Womens  4x100m relay team placing again 3rd, with good tight changeovers, however the highlight of the day has to be the womens 4x400m relay. Holly Matheson got them a storming start with about a 100m lead, Helena and Colette were able to maintain this lead and Lizzy brought them home in blazing style with a time the same as her 400m pb!! Brilliant performance and the men could learn a thing or two from the women’s relay teams!!

Next match Sunday 9th July at Churchill

The NEMAA meeting at Monkton on Monday evening was a bit of a wet one, however we had such an amazing number of Heaton out. Again fantastic performances, big throws from Param, Marshall and Suzan. Janine’s 3k was outstanding, equalled by  Sam Daley’s performance. Danny and Stephen Schubeler and Ellen Roberts doing great in high jump. There were lots of top points in age categories, and the collective brilliant team performances placed both men and women resoundingly at the top of the league!! This made Lisa B track captain a very happy hamster indeed!!  Lets keep this momentum going and equal this performance over the next 3 matches.

Next match Monday 3rd July at Monkton.

Mark Banks also competed at the BMC  on Monday and won his heat in 1500m in 4:11.49 which was also a pb. Mark is on fire this year!!
