Track and Field

Northern League:
Heaton joined the Northern League last year for the first time since 1996 in response to several of our members expressing an interest in competing on the track. We entered the league structure in the lowest division, and have managed to earn promotion in both 2007 and 2008. The full range of athletics events is available at each of the matches, and we are able to field up to two male and two female competitors in each event. There are also 4x100m and 4x400m relays at the end of each match. We will now be competing in Division 2E in 2009.

Coaching:
Next season we will again be organising coaching sessions aimed at preparing our members for field events and sprints in the Northern League matches. Details will appear here.

Veterans:
For athletes over the age of 35, there is a North East Veterans Track and Field League. A great turnout in the men's section this year has resulted in Heaton winning the men's trophy. Membership of VAA-NEE (£15 per year) is required to take part. This also enables you to enter other VAA-NEE events as well as international Masters competitions. Results from this year's league are now available, and hopefully next year we can win the women's league too as well as defending the men's title.

Other Track and Field meetings:
In addition to the leagues mentioned above, there are other opportunities to compete on the track over the summer. Heaton results from the North East Athletics League are included.

2008 Rankings:
These provide an up-to-date men's and women's top five list for every track and field event for Heaton members for 2008.
