Veterans Track and Field
Any Heaton members over 35 are also eligible to join VAA-NEE (Veterans Athletic Association - North East of England), and take part in events they stage over the course of the year. The annual subscription is currently £15. As well as staging North East Veterans Championships for Track and Field, Cross Country and Road, VAA-NEE also provides a local veterans' Track and Field league, details of which are below. North East Veterans League
This league consists of 5 fixtures, with a limited and different selection of events at each one. Typically a meeting may have 100m, 800m and 3000m on the track, and one or two throws and jumps. All VAA-NEE members are eligible to take part, with the events organised in the 5-year age groups. Points are awarded to the top 6 competitors in each event in each age category. These points can be accumulated over the season for the chance to win individual awards, and they also count towards the club's total in the league. So the more Heaton members, both male and female, we can get turning out, the better we will do. In the 2007 season Heaton finished 7th in the men's league with 110 points, and that was with just five competitors, whereas in 2008 and 2009 we won the men's league with a much better turnout. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
There is a new rule for this year's league: Men's team points are only awarded to a club at meetings where they have at least four competitors; Women's team points are only awarded to a club at meetings where they have at least three competitors.
Please note that you must join VAA-NEE or renew your subscription before the day of the competition to take part in a match. You are no longer able to do so on the night.
