General event information
This popular event first entered the local athletics calendar in 1991. It is run on much the same course as our Jesmond Dene Handicap series but, as it is a scratch race rather than a handicap, the wider section through Armstrong and Heaton Parks is done before the Dene section.
The course covers roughly 3.41 miles, a scenic and undulating course passing through Jesmond Dene, Armstrong Park and Heaton Park. In the early years of this event, the course started and finished at the old Heaton Library on Heaton Park View. These days it starts in Armstrong Park, close to Armstrong Bridge, and finishes about half way across Armstrong Bridge.
