The North East Harrier League (NEHL) Cross Country is a great way to get involved with the club and meet new members. Fixtures usually take place on Saturdays and occasionally on Sundays between September and March, with a series of 6 handicapped races for all abilities based on a league system with three divisions.
You may see posts referring to XC this generally refers to the Harrier League cross country but may include other events. To run in the Harrier League you have to be a club member and you just have to let your club Captains know that you want to take part. Your club captains are Scott McEntee and Ellen Cole. Dates and venues for for the 2021/22 season are:
25th September 2021 at Wrekenton Gateshead
10th October 2021 at Druridge Bay Country Park (Sunday)
30th October 2021 at Lambton Country Park, Chester-le-Street
27th November 2021 atAykley Heads, Durham
12th February 2022 at Thornley Hall Farm,Co Durham 5th March 2022 at Alnwick Pastures
8th January 2022 at South Shields Temple Park -The Sherman Cup (male) / Davison Shield (female) are non handicapped races . A club gains points by having members compete in every age category.
Other cross country events you can take part in include the North East Championships, the Northern Championships and the National Championships. For the 2021/22 season:
December 11th 2021 – North Eastern Championships at Sedgefield
January 2022 (TBC) – Northern Championships at Pontefract
February 2022 (TBC) – National Championships at Parlament Hill London
These are slightly longer races and are non-handicapped, or ‘scratch’, races. That means a massed start with clubs being allocated a start pen on the start line. All club members all welcome to enter these races, we normally charge a deposit for entry (approx £7), refundable after racing. It is truly an awesome sight to see the start of the nationals.
You must always wear your white club vest for cross-country racing.
