The North East Harrier League (NEHL) Cross Country is a great way to get involved with the club and meet new members. Meetings take place on Saturdays and Sundays between September and March, with a series of handicapped races for all abilities based on a league system with three divisions.
You may see posts referring to XC this generally refers to the Harrier League cross country but may include other events. To run in the Harrier League you have to be a club member and you just have to let your club Captains know that you want to take part. Your club captains are Scott McEntee and Ellen Cole. Proposed dates and venues for for the 2019/20 season are:
28th September 2019 – Wrekenton
6th October 2019 – Druridge Bay
26th October 2019 – venue to be confirmed
23rd November 2019 – Aykley Heads
4th January 2020 – Temple Park (Sherman Cup/Davison Shield)
8th February 2020 – Thornley Hall
29th February 2020 – Alnwick
The Sherman Cup / Davison shield is a non handicapped series of races taking place on one day. A club gains points via having people compete in every age category.
The various other Cross Country Championships, are the Northeast championships (normally second Saturday in December), The Northern championships in January and following on the next month the Nationals.
They are slightly longer races and are non-handicapped, or ‘scratch’, races. That means a massed start with clubs being allocated a start pen on the start line. All club members all welcome to enter these races, we normally charge a deposit for entry (approx £7), refundable after racing. It is truly an awesome sight to see the start of the nationals.
You must always wear your white club vest for cross-country racing.
