Winter training – be safe, be seen!

We’re reaching that point in the year where our club training sessions are in the dark from start to finish. Though we make every effort to find well lit routes to for our sessions, for your own safety and that of others, please make sure you’re as visible as possible when coming to the club.

As a minimum, your top should be a bright or light colour. You could also consider adding a high visibility vest or jacket – as basic or technical as you like – or stick some reflective bits or lights to your existing kit. Whatever you go for, just make sure you can be seen by all other pedestrians and road users, and take extra care near to roads.

If you do use paths that aren’t well lit, either to get to the club or on your own runs, a headtorch is useful. A few of us rate the lights from Alpkit for durability and comfort, though there are plenty of options out there. You don’t need to spend a fortune on this stuff, but you’ll get a lot of use out of it and it’ll come in handy for many winters to come!
