The North East Harrier League (NEHL) Cross Country is a great way to get involved with the club and meet new members. Meetings take place on Saturdays and Sundays between September and March, with a series of handicapped races for all abilities based on a league system with three divisions.
You may see posts referring to XC this generally refers to the Harrier League cross country but may include other events. To run in the Harrier League you have to be a club member and you just have to let your club Captains know that you want to take part. Your club captains are Scott McEntee and Ellen Cole. Dates and venues for for the 2021/22 season are:
25th September 2021
10th October 2021
30th October 2021
27th November 2021
9th January 2022
12th February 2022
5th March 2022
The Sherman Cup (male) / Davison Shield (female) are non handicapped races taking place on one of these dates. A club gains points by having members compete in every age category.
Other cross country events you can take part in include the North East Championships, the Northern Championships and the National Championships. For the 2021/22 season:
11th December 2021 – North Eastern Championships
January 2022 (TBC) – Northern Championships
February 2022 (TBC) – National Championships
These are slightly longer races and are non-handicapped, or ‘scratch’, races. That means a massed start with clubs being allocated a start pen on the start line. All club members all welcome to enter these races, we normally charge a deposit for entry (approx £7), refundable after racing. It is truly an awesome sight to see the start of the nationals.
You must always wear your white club vest for cross-country racing.
